At a cement plant, a coordinated effort among various departments—including security—enabled systematic theft of cement during truck loading operations. Drivers manipulated the weighbridge by parking incorrectly, inflating weight readings, and placing additional tires or sandbags, which they later discarded inside the facility. This deception allowed them to load excess cement bags beyond the authorized amount, leading to an estimated loss of at least $1 million per month.
Eliminating the "?"
To combat this issue, Afroshine implemented a robust,
technology-driven solution:
- RFID-Based
Truck Registration & Access Control: Every truck was registered
via RFID tags, permanently affixed to the windshield. Only
authorized trucks with valid RFID tags could enter, and access control was
integrated with authentication. Additionally, facial recognition
was used to scan drivers and helpers before entry, ensuring comprehensive
tracking of personnel.
- Order-Based
Loading Management: Each truck was linked to a Purchase Order (PO),
allowing precise calculation of the authorized cement bag count for
loading.
- Weighbridge
Intrusion Detection: A Perimeter Intrusion Detection (PID) system
was installed on the weighbridge to ensure trucks were correctly
positioned, eliminating fraudulent weight manipulation.
- AI-Powered
Material Detection: AI-driven cameras scanned trucks for
unauthorized materials like water, sandbags, or extra tires. Any extra
materials were promptly removed before loading commenced.
- Automated
Cement Bag Monitoring: During loading, AI-powered cameras
counted each cement bag placed on the truck. If an excess bag was
detected, an instant alert was triggered in the control room.
- Exit
Verification & Weight Analysis: Upon exiting, AI compared images
of the truck before and after loading, estimating the number of
cement bags onboard. If a significant discrepancy was detected, an alarm
was raised.
- Incident
Tracking & Escalation: Every flagged event was documented and
escalated through an incident reporting matrix, ensuring
accountability and continuous improvement.
Through these measures, Afroshine effectively eradicated cement theft, securing the supply chain and preventing millions of dollars in losses.
